Police Charge Tyre King Companion With Robbery

Columbus Division of Police

Columbus police have arrested a man who was with a 13-year-old African-American boy shortly before the teen was fatally shot by a white office investigating a reported armed robbery on the near east side. 19-old Demetrius Braxton told police he was with Tyre King on Wednesday night and the teen sought to rob someone. Police say Braxton is charged with robbery. The case began when witnesses reported people had robbed a man of 10 dollars at gunpoint. Braxton said he ran away with Ling, and police told them to get down. He says they did, but King got up and ran and was shot. Police officials have refused to comment on how that compares with officer accounts of what happened. Police do say they looking for other people who might have been with Braxton during the robbery who may have information that would help investigators determine what happened before the shooting.
