Police: Kirkersville Chief Overdosed On Drugs Taken From Evidence Room

WCBE files

Investigators say Kirkersville Police Chief James Hughes died after overdosing on drugs taken from his department's evidence room.

Hughes died at his Reynoldsburg home in May, a few months after becoming chief.  Detectives say they found an open package containing fentanyl and closed materials with heroin and LSD in Hughes' living room.  Officials say all of the drugs were taken from the department.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
