Republican U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio says he's opposed to the Trump administration's policy separating immigrant children from their parents at the Mexico border.
The policy that took effect last month has separated more than 2 thousand children so far. Portman told reporters Tuesday the policy should be "immediately paused" while Congress and the administration work on a solution.
Portman says a legislative solution should include more funding for detention facilities that can house families.
Also criticizing the policy is Republican Ohio Governor John Kasich. He spoke with MSNBC on Monday.
Kasich has also posted a video on social media calling for an end to the policy. Current and former First Ladies and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown are among those who have also voiced opposition to the policy.
