An online charter school has been cleared of allegations in an anonymous email that it failed to withdraw hundreds of chronically truant students in order to pad its rolls. A probe by the Ohio Council of Community Schools, which oversees charter schools, found only minor reporting errors by the Ohio Virtual Academy. In May, a whistleblower emailed state lawmakers a list of nearly 400 students who appeared to be chronically truant yet were still enrolled, allowing the school to continue drawing state payments. Council investigators found 12 students remained enrolled beyond accurate withdrawal dates. They recommend improvements to the school's truancy tracking system.
