Public Forum Tonight On Search For New Police Chief

Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther will attend a public forum tonight on the search for a new police chief.

The forum, which is the sixth of seven, starts at 6pm at the Columbus Urban League on Mount Vernon Avenue.

Urban League director Stephanie Hightower, Deputy Director of Public Safety George Speaks, and the mayor's chief of staff Dawn Tyler Lee, who is chair of the seven-member  advisory committee that will make the final recomendation will also be a part of the forum, which is intended to gather community input for the outside search firm.

The city has relied heavily on social media to publicize the forums, and are asking people to complete a brief surveyabout their priorities.

The final public forum on the search is scheduled for Thursday night at 6 at St. Stephens community house in Linden.  Interim police chief Thomas Quinlan took over in February, after former Chief Kim Jacobs stepped down.  During Jacobs' tenure there were several high-profile police involved shootings that strained community relations with the department.
