Existing home sales declined in April on the national level, but rose in central Ohio and statewide.

Figures released Tuesday by the National Association of Realtors show a decline of four-tenths of a percent from March to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 5.19 million, as would-be buyers face affordability problems and a limited supply. The decline is concentrated in homes worth less than 250 thousand dollars, a likely reflection of a shortage. The Ohio Realtors trade association says nearly 14 thousand existing homes were sold last month, up from more than 11 thousand in March. The Columbus Realtors trade association says nearly 27 hundred existing homes were sold in it's multi-county region in April, up by roughly 300 from the previous month. The average statewide sale price was nearly 189 thousand dollars last month, up from over 177 thousand in March. The average regional sale price was over 221 thousand dollars in April, virtually unchanged from the previous month.
