Columbus police say seven people were treated Sunday for suspected opiate overdoses; one died. Akron police responded to 25 overdoses in one day last week. The incidents are drawing renewed attention to the growing opioid abuse epidemic in the state. In May, the state launched a six-month awareness campaign targeting 15 counties hit hard by overdose deaths. Ohio had roughly 500 such deaths in 2014.
