Federal agents today arrested seven men in connection with a conspiracy to illegally traffic firearms from Ohio to Canada.
11 men were charged in an August 19th indictment unsealed Wednesday. Authorities say the suspects conspired to smuggle more than 30 guns from Ohio to Canada from July 2018 through the middle of last year. Six of those arrested are from Columbus: 25-year old Omar Sharif Mohamed Hassan, 21-year old Jamil Jamal Abdalla, 22-year old Mohamed Abdulkadir Mohamed, 24-year old Abdirahim Mahmoud Dualeh, 21-year old Ahmed Ahmed, 25-year old Abdiaziz Said Ahmed, and 24-year old Ibrahim Ali. Also arrested Wednesday was 23-year old Hussein Ahmed, of Toronto, Canada.
Investigators say they would recruit female drivers to smuggle weapons across the border or to bring money back from Canada by offering promises of free trips, payment, and drugs or alcohol.
Three other Columbus residents are wanted in the case: 20-year-old Mohamed Abdi Hirad (also known as Mo Trippin), 24-year-old Samarke Igal (aka Marke), and 22-year-old Mohmamed Sharif Ali Mohamed (aka Momo).
