State Bars Local School District From Using Security Barricades

wclt.com

Some Licking County parents are frustrated with the state's decision to keep schools from using security barricades intended to stop a gunman. After parents raised 30 thousand dollars to buy intruder-defense systems for the Southwest Licking school district, they were told the devices violate state building codes. The district appealed, but the Ohio Department of Commerce's Board of Building Appeals voted against the use of the barricades. The active-shooter training received by the school district last year encouraged using barricades to stop a gunman.  Republican State Senator Jay Hottinger of Newark called a meeting with state officials after learning about the matter. He says it is something that must be resolved at the state level.
