State Confirms 19th Century Canal Boat Remnants Found In Buckeye Lake

buckeyelakeyc.com

Experts working for the state have concluded planks and pieces of wood pulled from the muck of Buckeye Lake are wreckage of a canal boat that sunk in 1850. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says experts are confident the wreckage found months ago is the Black Diamond because of the location, the style of nails in the timbers and the chunks of coal found in the area. The vessel sank after hitting an obstruction along the north bank while transporting coal to a mill.
