Low-income Ohioans can start signing up for Medicaid coverage online, along with those who are newly eligible under an expansion of the health program. The online enrollment option is being launched today as part of a new state system. Residents can learn about options through the new website. Ohioans who are newly eligible for Medicaid under an expansion of the program can apply for coverage that begins on January 1. Governor John Kasich's administration got approval in October to extend Medicaid eligibility to those with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level - or $15,856 for an individual. Roughly 366,000 additional Ohioans are eligible under the expansion.
