State Urges Extra Care For Seniors In Winter Weather

time.com

With snow and bitter cold forecast for much of the state this week, the Ohio Department of Aging is urging seniors to take extra safety precautions. The department says seniors can lose body heat more quickly and could be taking medications that affect the body's ability to regulate its temperature. The department recommends having an emergency kit, a backup supply of medications, and spare batteries or other options for medical equipment in case of power failure. Officials also advise carrying a cellular phone and being extra careful in icy and snowy conditions to avoid falls. The department also encourages all Ohioans to check on older relatives, friends and  neighbors.
