Study Shows Economic Impact Of Local Recycling

A study commissioned by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio shows the region's recycling industry created thousands of jobs and generated more than one billion dollars in annual revenue.

Study results released this week shows 372 recycling businesses employ more than 5 thousand workers, generating 235 million dollars in annual payrolls and nearly 1.3 billion in annual revenue. When businesses supported by the industry are included, the workforce increases to ten thousand and annual payroll reaches 2.5 billion dollars. The study indicates 400 additional jobs would be created if local residents and businesses diverted 35 percent more materials to recycling.
