Suicide in Ohio: A Conversation with Orman Hall

Sep 13, 2020

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Accordingly, this week on Prognosis Ohio, Dan Skinner interviews Orman Hall, a distinguished expert on addiction, mental health, and suicide from Ohio University, about his and his colleagues' 10-year study on suicide in Ohio. The study was conducted with the help of officials from the Mental Health and Addiction Advocacy Coalition; the Ohio Alliance for Innovation in Population Health; and Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation. The Ohio Department of Health played a critical role in making data available.

In this episode, Skinner and Hall break down trends in Ohio suicides between 2008 and 2018 to not only help build on our previous discussion with Ohio Students for Gun Legislation (check out the episode here), but to also explore the opioid epidemic as well as health disparities from county to county within our state.

HELP IS AVAILABLE! Please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 if you or a loved one needs to speak with a counselor today.
