Teen Suspects Plead Not Guilty In Death Of Woman At Hocking Hills

wlwt.com

Two 16-year-old boys have pleaded not guilty in the death of a woman killed by a large  piece of a tree  at Hocking Hills State Park on Labor Day.

Jaden Churchheus and Jordan Buckley were arraigned Friday on adult counts of murder, involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide charges in the death of 44-year-old Victoria Schafer of Chillicothe. The teens are accused of intentionally dislodging a 74-pound log, causing it to fall over a cliff.  The log struck and killed Schafer, who was standing below on stairs near Old Man's Cave. A judge freed the teens on recognizance bonds and ordered them to remain under house arrest. They must wear GPS monitors. The judge also ordered both to undergo mental health evaluations. Churchheus' trial has been set for the week of January 27. Buckley's trial is scheduled to begin the following week.
