Trial Delayed For Columbus Man Charged With Planning Terrorist Attack

Franklin County Sheriff's Office

Trial has been delayed until January for a Columbus man charged with training in Syria for a terrorist attack in the US.

Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud,  a naturalized American citizen who was arrested earlier this year, has pleaded not guilty to charges of supporting terrorism, supporting a terrorist group and making a false statement involving international terrorism.  Judge James Graham on Friday rescheduled the trial until Jan. 4 at the request of government prosecutors and Mohamud's attorney. The trial had been set to begin Monday.   According to the indictment, the 23-year-old Mohamud received weapons training in Syria, and was instructed to return to the U.S. to attack a military base or a prison.

A native of Chicago, naturalized citizen of Cincinnati and resident of Columbus, Alison attended Earlham College and the Ohio State University. She has equal passion for Midwest history, hockey and Slavic poetry.
