Former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing will be arraigned in Hamilton County Court this morning on murder charges and the county prosecutor says he is so angry he wants to prosecute the case himself. Alison Holm reports.
"This is the most asinine act I've ever seen a police officer make. It's an absolute tragedy, in the year 2015, that anyone would behalf in this manner."
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says the body camera video of UC police officer Ray Tensing's July 19th traffic stop is clear and unequivocal.
"You will not believe how quickly he pulls his gun and shoots him in the head. It's incredible. I'm treating him like a murderer."
The 25-year old Tensing, who was fired by the University Wednesday afternoon, turned himself in to Cincinnati police after he was indicted on charges of murder and involuntary manslaughter. Dubose's sister Terina Allen says the release of the body cam video vindicated her brother.
"He didn't have a gun, he didn't do anything to that officer - no one deserves this. So I'm angry, but I'm as pleased as I could be that we're actually going to get some kind of justice for Sam."
Tensing's attorney says he is shocked that his client is being charged with murder, and blames a highly charged political climate. Stewart Matthews say unreleased body camera video from a second officer on the scene shows Tensing on the ground, and will support his claim he feared Dubose was going to run him over. If convicted, Tensing faces 15 years to life in prison. He is the first officer in Cincinnati to face murder charges for killing someone in the line of duty.
