The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the percentage of unionized Ohio workers increased by one-tenth of a point to 12.4 percent in 2017.
Amy Hanauer is with the progressive-leaning think tank Policy Matters Ohio.
Hanauer says union membership could drop if legislative Republicans pass a so-called "right-to-work" bill. The measure hinders the ability of public sector unions to collect fees from nonmembers, and she says that could hurt unions' bargaining power. But supporters of the bill say workers shouldn't be forced to pay fees to a union if they choose not to join.
