In support of WCBE’s winter fundraising campaign, just over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce is being donated to those struggling with hunger

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Feb. 14, 2014)Green BEAN Delivery, an online home delivery service that provides organic produce and natural groceries to Midwest members, announces today it is donating 1 ton of fresh produce to Mid-Ohio Foodbank serving  central and eastern Ohio. The delivery of the produce will take place on Feb. 14.

“We at Mid-Ohio Foodbank and our network of partner agencies understand how food impacts health, which is why more than 50 percent of our inventory is now fresh,” said Matt Habash, president and CEO of Mid-Ohio Foodbank. “Great community partners such as Green BEAN Delivery and WCBE demonstrate a deep commitment to community in getting this fresh, nutritious food on the plates of our hungry neighbors.”

During a fund drive with Central Ohio's NPR station WCBE-FM (90.5) that ran from Dec. 2 through 31, Green BEAN Delivery committed to matching every pledge from community members with 2 pounds of fresh produce and 4 pounds during select times. The initiative resulted in 910 pledges from listeners and over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to be donated to Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

“The charitable initiatives of our members and partners are genuinely portrayed through the seasonal local food drives that we participate in annually,” said John Freeland, vice president of Green BEAN Delivery. “Thanks to their generosity and compassion, we are able to provide fresh produce to those in need. We hope that our donation of just over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to Mid-Ohio Foodbank will inspire others to also give back.”

Since 1980, Mid-Ohio Foodbank has been working with grocers, food companies, Ohio farmers, the USDA and community partners to obtain food and distribute it to more than 550 food pantries, soup kitchens, after school sites, shelters and senior centers across 20 central and eastern Ohio counties. Last year, the organization distributed 53 million pounds of food to its network, providing enough for 107,000 meals per day. Mid-Ohio Foodbank is committed to ending hunger one nourishing meal at a time and co-creating a sustainable community where everyone thrives.
