Tune in for the cool grooves of EyopeLive From Studio A in advance of their show that night at Woodland's Tavern with Pocketbooks!

LISTEN HERE!

Eyope’s (ēyopē) sound is driven by palatable pop melodies, stirred in with colorful harmony and feel good beats.

That, combined with the group’s vision to make the most of every musical moment, was enough for Ivan Jackson (Brasstracks) to coin the phrase Avantgroove.

The idea has become realized through the journey of Evan Oberla (trombone, vocals, keys) and Mitchell Deitrick (bass) from Columbus, OH to New Orleans, La to experience life and music in the culturally significant music city.  Drummer Jason Holt (Allen Stone) rounded out the rhythmic framework for the bands’ concept as they headed into the studio. Live, the group is augmented by the guitar and synths of George Wilde, and the supple woodwinds of multi-instrumentalist Ari Kohn.

The forthcoming debut record from eyope- Elevation, arrives as a six-song EP of original music. Featuring warm yet spacey Rhodes & synthesizers, tightly woven bass & drums, with layered horns, the music is arranged around the heartfelt vocals and trombone melodies of lead creator Evan Oberla. The tracks are propelled by the tight rhythm section of Jason Holt & Mitchell Deitrick. The record keeps excellent musical company with features from Grammy-nominated Jamison Ross, the unparalleled Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph (Tank & the Bangas), & the emotive talk box stylings of Swatkins (Allen Stone).

Maggie Brennan has been with WCBE since she began as an intern in 1993. She’s passionate about sharing music from all over the world with our listeners and takes pride in showcasing a wide range of artists from here in central Ohio on her weekday music program.
