The city of Westerville has agreed to pay 25 thousand dollars to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of two children who were handcuffed by police officers after a fight on a school bus in 2011. The lawsuit filed by the family of Mikeal and Michelle Mitchell accused police of civil-rights violations and using excessive force. The family is also suing the Westerville Schools and several district officials. The district's attorney says his client will continue to fight the lawsuit. District records show the children pushed the bus driver and threatened to punch the school principal. Criminal charges were filed but later dropped.
