Columbus City Council last night approved a 10-year, 75 percent property-tax abatement for a rubber products firm that plans to open a manufacturing center at an old warehouse in Marion Franklin. 

In a surprise move Tuesday, the Columbus City Schools' Board of Education approved indefinitely shelving the bulk of the recommendations on school closings and consolidations put forth by its task force.

After six months of deliberations and seven public forums, the Columbus City Schools' task force on facilties voted on a final slate of recomendations on school closures and reconfiguration. 

Task force recommendations to overhaul Columbus City Schools by consolidating some schools, closing some, and selling off excess property are continuing to evolve, ahead of a vote by the school board next month.
