Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorius B.I.G., and T Rex make up the Rock Hall's 35th class. For Rock & Roll Hall of Fame president and CEO Greg Harris, these inductees reflect the different genres of Rock & Roll.

The latest round of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions were announced today, and Whitney Houston is the only woman honored.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 35th annual class of inductees, honoring six musical acts — Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T-Rex — as well as veteran rock journalist, producer and artist manager Jon Landau.

The inducted musicians were chosen from a ballot of 16 finalists, which meant fans of Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Judas Priest, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motörhead, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden and Thin Lizzy will have to wait at least another year for Rock Hall validation.

Tomorrow, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce its 2020 inductees. And while this year's nominees include three woman-driven acts, critics have long chided the Rock Hall for the low percentage of women in its pantheon of performers.

For instance, after warmly accepting her induction into the Rock Hall last spring, Janet Jackson threw down the gauntlet.

"Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, please: 2020, induct more women," she demanded. The crowd cheered.
