Ohio students would have extra time to take state-mandated tests interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic under an emergency measure passed unanimously by the Ohio House.

School districts and communities are working on creating plans to improve student success and address the disrupted learning created by the COVID-19 pandemic. These plans could include a range of changes such as longer school years and additional tutoring, which could put a strain on teachers.

State health officials report nearly 5-thousand new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24-hours, and 55 newly recorded deaths. 

State health officials Monday reported 4,519 new cases of COVID-19 and 62 new deaths.

Governor Mike DeWine says the state will launch a study of k-12 students to see if the current application of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's definition of "close contact" may be causing students to unnecessarily miss school.  

As high school sports programs began to plan their fall season, there are still a lot of details to work out.
