A group has taken the first step to asking voters next year to eliminate qualified immunity for police officers and other government employees accused in shootings or other actions. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports.

A controversial conservative lawmaker from Georgia has announced she will attend a rally at the Ohio Statehouse Saturday, in support of a Columbus cop who shot and killed a teen girl last week.

Ohio Republican lawmakers are pushing for two bills that would increase penalties for offenses that take place during demonstrations and protests. Opponents of the bills say this is an attempt to limit free speech. Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports.

Columbus was unprepared for the size and energy of protests last year over racial injustice and police brutality, according to a report released Monday that also found most police officers felt abandoned by city leadership during that time.

Ohio's largest city had no advance plan for handling such protests, and suffered from a lack of coordination and even regular communication among city leaders once the protests began, the report said.
