Rock Hall Unveils Super Bowl Halftime Show Exhibit And Garage To Glory Competition

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

As Cleveland gets ready to host NFL Draft next week, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum introduces an exhibit honoring the history of the Super Bowl Halftime Show and its legendary performers. The Biggest Show on Turf: 55 Years of Halftime Shows opens April 24.The exhibit features the decades of performances along with outfits, instruments, and set pieces.

"We're at our best when we find things that unite us," Rock Hall CEO and president Greg Harris said. "Sport does unite us at its best, and music unites all of us. There was a pivotal moment in the first Super Bowl after 9/11. U2 played, and Bono wore a custom-made black leather jacket with an American flag liner. It made the cover of Time Magazine and really became a unifying moment. That jacket and that story are part of this exhibit. We have the whole infinity room from The Weeknd’s performance. H.E.R. performed this year, and we have her outfit and guitar. We have Prince’s turquoise suit that he wore when he played Purple Rain as the rain was pouring down."

The exhibit will be on display at the museum through September.

The Rock Hall also launched a competition for emerging musicians. In a partnership with Goodyear, the “From Garage to Glory” talent search will give aspiring musicians and bands a chance to perform live during the week leading up to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

"It's a chance to celebrate and recognize all the bands that are still in the garage," Harris said. "Whether you're building a hot rod or getting a band together, the garage is where it all starts. Bands can send in a clip performing an original song and tell the story behind its inspiration. There's $10,000 in prize money. Then we'll pick three finalists. Music fans will vote for the final entry between

Entries can be submitted now through May 16 at FromGarageToGlory.com.

Meanwhile, this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class will be announced May 12 followed by an exhibit featuring the inductees this summer. The induction ceremony takes place October 30 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
