A Grove City woman is expected to make a full recovery after being hit with a stray bullet fired by a Columbus police officer early Sunday. 29-year-old Heather Garrett is hospitalized in serious condition with a back wound. Columbus police say Garrett was an innocent bystander who was 60 to 100 feet away from the shooting at East Front and Vine streets. Police Sergeant Rich Weiner says Garrett was with her fiance when officers confronted 50-year-old Douglas Weigand.Weiner says Weigand drove directly at an officer at a high rate of speed, prompting officers Ryan Steele and Jesse Perkins to open fire. Weigand is hospitalized in serious condition, charged with felonious assault.
