Consultant Clears U-T Hospital In Botched Kidney Transplant

A Texas transplant surgeon hired to evaluate the kidney program at the University of Toledo Medical Center says he found no problems with hospital systems or culture that would have indicated a risk for the accidental disposal of a viable kidney by a nurse.Doctor Marvin Levy says the kidney was thrown into the trash in August by a nurse who did not know standard operating room procedures. A review conducted by the state cited poor communication and oversight and insufficient policies as factors. Levy is the director for transplantation at Baylor Medical Center in Fort Worth.
