State regulators have approved permits for new wells for dumping fracking wastewater.The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved disposal wells in Athens, Washington and Portage counties, with 30 applications pending. The state stopped issuing permits after fracking was blamed for causing an earthquake in northeast Ohio earlier this year. The history of oil and gas drilling in Ohio dates back to the mid 1800's. But fracking is relatively new. Michelle Kanu of member station WCPN in Cleveland examines how fracking differs from conventional drilling.
