The state says nine calf carcasses were found in the driveway of a vacant Columbus home, and it's unclear how the animals died or why they were left there. Ohio Department of Agriculture spokesperson Erica Hawkins says a veterinarian found no evidence that the animals were abused or had any contagious disease. Hawkins says it's a rare situation because most owners dispose of dead animals through legal methods. She says the calves had unofficial ear tags but otherwise do not include any traceable information.
