The Ohio Senate has approved a proposal increasing car and truck speed limits to 70 mph on rural interstate highways. The Ohio Department of Transportation would set the maximum speed limit for freeway outerbelts in urban areas at 65 mph and on freeways in congested areas at 55 mph. The bill also would set in motion Governor John Kasich's plan for a 1.5 billion dollar Ohio Turnpike bond sale to fund highway and bridge projects. The bill is now expected to go to a conference committee.
