Mandel Claims He's Saving State Money

An annual report from the state treasurer's office claims Republican Josh Mandel saved Ohio more than 2 million dollars by cutting operating expenses last budget year. Mandell says he's reduced payroll in his office by more than 1.7 million dollars, among other changes.  Mandel says his office has updated previous practices that include switching to electronic banking instead of driving checks to the bank. He says he's also saved the state more than 23 million dollars in future interest payments by refinancing debt. Mandel faces re-election next year against Democratic state Representative Connie Pillich.
