The state attorney general says more than 200 Ohioans have received unsolicited phone calls with offers of medical alert devices. Mike DeWine says roughly 40 percent of this year's reports came in the last month. He urges Ohioans not to give out any personal information on these calls and not to press any buttons. Consumers that have received such calls hear a prerecorded message, saying they are eligible for a free medical alert system or that someone bought a device for them. The recordings might tell consumers to press a button to schedule their delivery, or another button to opt out. DeWine says not to respond to the suspicious calls at all, because pressing a button could tell scammers that the phone number is active.
