A working group studying possible solutions to overcrowded parking lots in the Short North has come up with several ideas, including setting aside permits for businesses, removing parking meters and issuing only two permits per household.
The working group says restaurant and bar traffic is pushing residents out of their parking spaces. City Council in September enacted a one-year moratorium on new parking permit zones in the Short North and other neighborhoods where there is overcrowding on nights and weekends. The working group is scheduled to present its recommendations to the Columbus Transportation and Pedestrian Commission in November. The city is conducting a 250 thousand dollar parking study to help develop a long-term plan.
