When Medicaid expansion was discussed in recent months, advocates said it would allow coverage for 275 thousand low-income Ohioans. But when the state Controlling Board approved accepting two and a half billion dollars to be used for Medicaid expansion earlier this week, state Medicaid leaders said 366 thousand low-income Ohioans would benefit. Wendy Patton with the progressive-leaning think tank Policy Matters Ohio says both figures are correct.
But Gregg Lawson with the conservative-leaning think tank the Buckeye Institute says a 2012 study by the Urban Institute shows up to 500 thousand Ohioans could be added to the Medicaid program.
