Board: No Same-Sex Marriages At Statehouse

State of Ohio

The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board says it will maintain its policy of preventing same-sex couples and others without valid Ohio wedding licenses from renting the Statehouse and its grounds for weddings and receptions. A spokesperson says the board on Thursday agreed with a recommendation by a committee. FreedomOhio, a group supporting same-sex marriage, has said the policy is discriminatory. Democratic State Representative Mike Stinziano wanted the policy reviewed, saying the Statehouse could benefit financially from a change. The policy could change if same-sex couples win the right to legally marry in Ohio.
