Columbus City Council last night voted to extend a moratorium on issuing any new parking permits in the Short North and Italian Village until December 31st. Council last September enacted a one-year moratorium on new parking permit zones in neighborhoods where there is overcrowding on nights and weekends. Columbus Public Service director Tracie Davies says a working group and consultants hired by the city need more time to complete a parking study to help develop a long-term plan.

Members of the working group have said restaurant and bar traffic is pushing residents out of their parking spaces.
