Consultants are telling Franklin County Commissioners major upgrades of the county's water system are needed, and rates could increase as a result. The consultants hired by commissioners say 100 million dollars are needed to fund the improvements. That would mean a 127-percent rate increase over five years. Commissioners say they are exploring asking the city of Columbus for a shared services pact, since more than half of system expenses come from buying city water.
