New Mineral Named After KSU Professor

Kent State University

A newly discovered mineral is being named in honor of a longtime Kent State University geology professor.  Carlsonite was recently discovered from the remnants of a naturally-occurring fire within shale deposits along the Huron River.  The yellow-brown substance is named for Ernest Carlson, who taught at Kent State for more than three decades and helped research the shale fire before his death in 2010.
