Police: Man Shot By Officers Brandished BB Gun

Newark police say a suspect shot by police late Wednesday had altered a BB gun to make it look like a firearm and deliberately tried to provoke officers. 26-year-old Justin Pierson is hospitalized in Columbus. Police say he was shot in the downtown area after he raised his hand holding what appeared to be a firearm and ignored orders to drop it. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
