One of the two suspects charged in a fatal drug-related robbery attempt in June of last year has entered an Alford plea. 23-year-old Christopher Prater is scheduled for sentencing on a robbery charge on August 10. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped several other charges. They say Prater and 19-year-old Joviyon Turner killed Raheem Dearmond and wounded Toure Benton as they sat in a car parked outside of a convenience store on the west side. Turner was sentenced last March to life in prison.
