Ohio Senator and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joe Schiavoni has introduced a bill cracking down on so-called "revenge porn."
The measure allows victims whose nude or sexually explicit photos are posted online without consent to take civil action. Schiavoni says many websites blackmail victims into paying large amounts of money to have the photos removed. And he says revenge porn often happens when someone's phone or computer is stolen or hacked, or when someone decides to get even after a relationship break-up.
The legislation also would prevent universities or colleges from withdrawing financial aid from victims, and blocks victims from disciplinary action. It also creates protections for victims so they are are not demoted or fired from their jobs. More than thirty other states have similar laws on the books.
