The Ohio Board of Education and the state's two largest teachers unions have publicly opposed a bill in the Ohio House consolidating the Ohio Departments of Education and Higher Education with Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation.

Now the Ohio School Boards Association is opposing the measure. Spokesperson Jay Smith says it would take away the authority of locally elected officials.

Smith and the other organizations say the bill was written without input from teachers.  Supporters see the measure as a way of improving cooperation between the agencies, and aligning education with workforce development. Several career and technology centers support the proposal.
