The Columbus Historical Society is launching a series of programs and exhibits on the city's role in World War I.

The programs and exhibits that start today and run through the end of the year show how Columbus memorialized the war and the soldiers. There will be panel discussions and exhibits with photographs, diaries and newspapers that demonstrate the city's reaction to the 1918 armistice and the monuments erected after the war. There also will be a focus on the postwar lives of veterans and how the war altered the city's skyline. 17 thousand central Ohioans served in the war.
