The Cuyahoga County Council has delayed enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic bags until July.

The ban is scheduled to take effect January 1st, but Council member Sunny Simon says she proposed the grace period after speaking with retailers:

The county became the first in the state to pass the ban.  The city of Cleveland opted out of the ban earlier this month while a working group conducts a study. Bexley has also enacted a ban, but state lawmakers are working on legislation to block local communities from enacting such bans.  The grocery store chain Giant Eagle earlier this month announced a phase-out of plastic bag use.
