Meeting Tonight On Future Of Ohio Monument

The public is getting a chance to share input on the future of the new national monument in Wilberforce honoring the first African-American colonel in the U.S. Army. President Obama designated Colonel Charles Young's home as a national park site earlier this year. The National Park Service says public comments will be accepted at a meeting tonight at Wilberforce University as officials plan how the monument will be managed in future years. Park Service officials expect 125 thousand people a year will visit the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument. Young served with the all-black 9th and 10th Calvary regiments, often called the Buffalo Soldiers. Native Americans gave that name to black soldiers on the western frontier in the 19th century.
