Lake Erie Water Levels Nine Inches Above Normal

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says Lake Erie water levels are nine inches above normal, their highest level since 1998. Levels are expected to remain above normal through November. Justin Chaffin is research coordinator at Ohio State University's Stone Lab. He says people living along the lake could see minor flooding.

Chaffin blames snow melt and recent heavy rainfalls. And he says those rainfalls will fuel toxic algae growth in the lake.

Chaffin says water levels in the rest of the Great Lakes are also higher than normal.
