BGSU Study Finds One Reason Why Algae Bloom Caused Toledo Water Crisis

nature.org

A new study claims to have found one reason why a Lake Erie algae bloom caused Toledo's water crisis in 2014.  Bowling Green State University researchers found a virus was released by the algae cells, causing the toxins to enter the municipal  water supply.  The study finds a strong chance of a similar viral outbreak happening in the future unless more is done to prevent future blooms.  The study has been published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology. More information on the study may be found by clicking here.
