Judge Allows Lawsuit Over Toxic Algae Blooms To Proceed

A federal judge in Toledo is allowing a lawsuit by an environmental group pushing for mandatory regulations to prevent toxic algae blooms on Lake Erie to proceed.

The judge rejected the U.S. EPA's request to dismiss the lawsuit alleging the agency must hold Ohio accountable for reducing the farm runoff that feeds the algae, and the state's reliance on largely voluntary efforts aren't working.
