Columbus Zoo Officials Seek Permanent Tax Levy

The board of directors of the Columbus Zoo voted yesterday to put a permanent, 1.25 mill property tax levy on the May ballot. The revenue would be used to fund a downtown satellite facility, expand the aquarium, build a new animal hospital and make other improvements. The request now goes to Franklin County Commissioners for approval. Zoo officials say their current 10-year levy expires in 2015. It's the first time the board has asked for a continuing levy.
